I just watched “An Avonlea Christmas”. It was all about how Hetty King was so bitter, but after she fell ill she changed her whole view on life. It was set in the time of the first world war, and many of the men in the town were off fighting. For the characters Christmas was a hard time because their sons, husbands, and fathers were off on duty.
During the show Hetty King discovered that she had a growth on her spine and it restricted her from walking. She had to undergo surgery, and this was the time of the 1915’s. Imagine how horrible it would be to be put to sleep, knowing that people were cutting into you, not a clue what would lay underneath. Thank god technology has advanced along the years and we have helpful tools such as MRI’s and CAT scans.
It was a really nice family movie to watch on Christmas, and it was a nice way to end the day. The movie was made in 2008, but sadly the actress who played Hetty King died a few months ago. It will be a classic for as long as people remember, and I’m sure it will be watched for years to come.
Over the span of a decade, our world has become more interested in blogging, and this has resulted in sites that allow you to host free blogs. To name a few, there are of course this one, WordPress, a recent one Tumblr, and an old favourite Blogspot. All of these databases have many things in common, and many things that are different.
My first blog, was on blogspot. It was the most basic thing out there and I was twelve at the time. When I started posting I talked about useless things that no one in their right mind would want to read. I would explain how my day was boring, or how it was good. I ended up completely forgetting about blogging, and resorted to facebook. My old blogspot blog is still up, and I havn’t deleted any of the posts. I just checked it recently and discovered that I had one follower. That one follower turned out to be someone from the United Kingdom.
I moved on to Tumblr which I used to be on all the time. It got to the point that I would not do my homework, and just scroll through the dashboard. The reason I got started on Tumblr, was because friends from school were also using it at the time. They raved about how great it was so I signed up and started blogging. I loved it how you could follow many different people, and it gave you directions to different blogs with different topics. The reason I left Tumblr was because of the problems it was experiencing. Every time you went to post a photo, or text, it would crash and say it is “temporarily unavailable”. It got to the point where I wanted to throw my computer out the window, so I deleted my account and moved on.
WordPress is the one I am currently using right now. It is a more modern and sleek version to do your blogging and it gives you the option to chose from hundreds of themes. I view WordPress as a more proffesional blog, whereas tumblr and blogspot are meant for younger adults. On WordPress you can make funny snow fall on your page during winter time and you can make your blog a custom domain. The only negative thing I have to say about WordPress is that you are unable to change your URL after you’ve created the blog. Other than that, I think WordPress is one of the best out there.
Blogs are a great way for people to express themselves. I view blogs as an online journal, where you can reveal all your thoughts and opinions either anonymously, or as yourself. It brings me joy when I am blogging, so I will continue to do it throughout my life. I hope you people reading this don’t think this post is useless, but I hope you take something from it. I have a lot of fun blogging, and I hope you do too.
